The Truly Ad-Free Browser

Lunar Browser blocks ads at the network layer, not in an extension. Ads never reach the page, so the websites cannot detect a blocker, cannot show nag screens, and cannot bypass it. Free for Windows and Android.

What “ad-free” really means

Not just hidden — not loaded

Most ad blockers don’t actually stop ads being downloaded. They download the ad, then hide it with CSS, then the page runs anyway. The bandwidth is wasted, the tracker pixel fired, the analytics counted you as “viewed”. Hidden, not absent.

Lunar is different. The request for the ad is intercepted by Lunar’s built-in network proxy before it leaves your device. Nothing is fetched. Nothing is hidden — there is nothing to hide. The ad simply does not exist as far as your phone is concerned.

How it works

Network-layer blocking

Lunar ships with a built-in transparent proxy (MITM) baked into the browser. Every web request passes through it. Ad domains, tracker pixels, beacon URLs — all matched against a curated block-list and stopped at the proxy before they ever hit the network.

From the website’s point of view, there is no blocker on the page. Their JavaScript can’t see one (there is no extension installed). Their DOM-fingerprinting can’t find one (nothing is being modified inside the page). The block happens one layer further down the stack — out of reach.

This is why Lunar’s YouTube ad blocker still works after YouTube’s 2024–2026 push to defeat uBlock Origin. Read about our YouTube ad blocker →

Honest comparison

Lunar vs Chrome+uBlock vs Brave

  • Chrome + uBlock Origin: An extension that hides ads after they load. Detectable by sites. YouTube has shipped specific counter-measures against it; news sites increasingly do too. Manifest V3 has clipped its wings further. Works most of the time, but not always.
  • Brave Browser: Has Shields, a built-in extension-style blocker. Better than uBlock because it’s integrated, but still operates inside the page. Brave’s own ads opt-in funnel is also worth understanding.
  • Lunar Browser: Network-layer MITM blocker. The blocker lives outside the page entirely. Sites cannot detect it, cannot fingerprint it, cannot bypass it without breaking themselves for everyone else too. Plus — no in-house ad programme.
What gets blocked

Across every site

  • YouTube ads — pre-roll, mid-roll, banner
  • News-site auto-play video ads, sticky banners, pop-overs
  • Social-feed sponsored posts where domain-blockable
  • Cross-site tracker pixels (Facebook Pixel, Google Tag Manager, etc.)
  • Behavioural-ad beacons and fingerprinting scripts
  • Affiliate-tracking redirects (preserves the click, strips the surveillance)
  • Pages arrive pre-filtered from our edge cache — faster than blocking ads in an extension because the cleaned page is already cached near you on Cloudflare's global network
